On 3rd of June 2022, DSCI in collaboration with Ashoka University, conducted a seminar on ‘Constitutional Right and Facial Recognition Technology’ as part the CIPHER Seminar Series.
CIPHER Seminar Series is a quarterly dialogue amongst industry professionals on contemporary issues that arise on account of emerging technology and tech policies.

On the 22nd of September, 2021 DSCI and Ashoka University jointly conducted the CIPHER Lawyers Conclave. The Conclave aimed to deliberate the legality of E-2-E encryption and the various encryption compromising interventions. On 25th June 2021, DSCI and Ashoka University jointly called on some of India’s prominent cryptographers within academia and industry to deliberate the effects of introducing “traceability” into messaging platforms and how it could affect end-to-end encryption. They deliberated on a series of possible interventions and focused on redesigning the threat model. Based on their analysis, they have generated a series of pros and cons of each intervention.

On 26th February 2021, the Data Security Council of India, in collaboration with Ashoka University, launched the ‘Coalition of India for a Progressive and Holistic Encryption Regime’ (CIPHER). CIPHER is a coalition of like-minded institutions and individuals committed to preserving privacy and promoting digital trust by leveraging cutting-edge cryptographic technologies.
